Tomb Raider Review

Tomb Raider

Wow, has 3-d platforming come  a long way. Just looking back at the first few Tomb Raider games is enough to almost make you laugh. Get ready for an intense game, my friends. Many have waited at the edge of their seats for this game, and despite the controversies ie Laura being "handled" by the bad guy, etc, this is a game most will enjoy. Tomb Raider is a game I've been looking forward to. If you're thinking of buying the game, here's a link to Amazon. Most fans of Mr. Croft will want to. For the rest of you, perhaps this review will convince you to try the game for yourselves and make your own decision.

Tomb Raider Platforming

The newest Tomb Raider nails heart-stopping, nail-biting leaps and Hail Mary's and crashes, and climbs, and snatching, and, yeah, I can go on for a while. Though not quite the badass double pistol shooting Laura most of us know and love, this younger albeit more inexperienced Ms. Croft gets the job done; and she looks exceptional while doing. Her movements are so natural and fluent, even making small adjustments as she catches ledges and climbs, you as the player feel the experience all the more. You almost feel her exertions and fatigue. I'll put it to you another way, not only is her every movement believable, but I'm sure I'm not the only one sitting on my couch thinking I'm outta shape compared to this unassuming archaeologist.

Budget 5" ZTE phablet poses for the camera, has a quad-core chip

The battle of the fast, yet affordable smartphones continues in China, as ZTE is entering the arena with their not so sexy called U956 MT6589.

The peculiar name aside, the affordable ZTE smartphone packs a 5" display of HD resolution and features the quad-core MediaTek MT6589 chipset. In fact, that's the same chip powering the Huawei G520, which is yet another budget offering.

Additionally, the 5" ZTE smartphone also packs dual-SIM slots as well as an 8MP main camera with LED flash, 1GB of RAM and a microSD card slot. We'll have more information once the device is officially announced.

Another thing the U956 MT6589 has in common wiht its Huawei rival is the China Mobile carrier. While the Huawei smartphone is coming with a $225 price tag, the ZTE U956 is a tad more expensive at $240. It should be available for customers of the operator very soon, though no specifics were given.

Galaxy Camera vs. 808 PureView: Shoot 'em up

Introduction

So, this may as well be the first against the last of their respective kind. Nokia would gladly try and sell you PureView in various wraps and Android-powered cameras are not unheard of, but a shootout like this one isn't very likely to repeat itself any time soon.

It's been a while and we don't know which is worse - the itch in the forefinger or the coat of dust on our Nokia 808. Both have just been idle for too long. But you know what, nothing's going to scratch that itch better than the best camera ever put in a mobile phone, and a brilliant set of web, social, media and cloud connectivity that Android brings to a proper point-and-shoot.

We're about to see yet another digicam take on the PureView, and one would think that, having survived a Canon and an Olympus, the Finn has little to worry about. We can see a point there but it's a lot more complicated than it seems. And hey, we're not complaining. We like it when it's complicated.

The thing is the Nokia 808 PureView and the Samsung Galaxy Camera are not each other's alternative. People interested in the Galaxy Camera most likely have a smartphone already, and most likely a droid. It would only make sense to a fair few it seems, to keep a second smartphone, be it the most spectacular cameraphone ever made.

The Galaxy Camera on the other hand, has all the smart you look for in a smartphone - except the phone bit obviously. A superior selection of apps makes Android better connected, while Symbian is, we're sorry to say it, a platform without a future.

Ultimately though, image quality will be the focus of this article, and things here aren't as straightforward as they seem either. The PureView has a wide-angle lens, but the Galaxy Camera's is wider. Samsung's digicam has a bigger and more capable Xenon flash than the Nokia 808 - the Finn on the other hand has an extra LED flash to use in video recording. We were quite impressed by the 4x lossless digital zoom of the PureView but it cannot really match 21x optical zoom.

Yet, the extra-long zoom might be both a blessing and a curse for the Galaxy Camera. Believe it or not, the proper digicam has a smaller image sensor than the phone. And yes, we all know by now that this isn't just another cameraphone. The Galaxy on the other hand isn't your average point- and-shoot - it's a connected camera and thanks to Android you can browse the web on it, play media and instantly share your stills and video.

Two gadgets and we don't want to have to choose. We have two shutter keys at half-press and hopefully it will be at least a little easier for you to make up your mind. It's been a while since we had a Nokia and a Samsung in a straight head-to-head. Let's not keep anybody waiting.

HTC M7 smartphone leaks through a rendered image

We have already seen the rumored specifications for the HTC M7, the company's upcoming flagship device and supposedly a replacement for the One X. Now we have a rendered image to go with it.

The rendered image looks strikingly similar to the BlackBerry L-series device that we have seen in the past, which itself sort of looks like the iPhone 5. The display is flanked by two colored plastic portions on the top and the bottom. Both areas have a rather pronounced grille area, with the top also housing the front facing camera and the various sensors. Unfortunately, this is the only picture we have for now.

The specs, as we had learned before, include a 4.7-inch, 1920 x 1080 resolution display with an incredible 468 ppi pixel density, 1.7GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor, 2GB of RAM, 32GB of storage space, 13 megapixel, f/2.0 rear camera and 2 megapixel front facing camera with 1080p video recording.

It is being rumored that the M7 will likely be announced at Mobile World Congress this year.

Qualcomm announces two new Snapdragon S4 chipsets for China

Qualcomm announced two new Snapdragon S4 chipsets, which are optimized for the Chinese market. Both feature a quad-core CPU, Adreno 305 GPU and a transceiver that supports Chinese wireless networks.

The new Snapdragon S4 chipsets are called MSM8226 and MSM8626 and they pack a quad-core processor manufactured on a 28nm process (Qualcomm has reserved that for Krait cores), though the frequency wasnt announced. The CPU is paired with an Adreno 305 GPU. The chipset supports cameras up to 13MP along with 1080p video recording.

There's also a WRT2605 transceiver, which supports Dual-SIM, Dual Standby and Dual-SIM, Dual Active modes of operation and works on China-specific TD-SCDMA, CDMA 1xAdv and HSPA+. It also supports GPS, GLONASS and Beidou (Chinese equivalent of GPS). The radio chip is smaller and uses 40% less energy than its predecessor.

The Qualcomm MSM8226 and MSM8626 will sample in Q2 next year and will be available in Qualcomm Reference Design form too.

Nokia Lumia 505 teased ahead of launch in Mexico

The Mexican retailer Guerrero Mvil teased an upcoming Nokia smartphone, called Nokia Lumia 505. It will be exclusive (at least initially) to the network of local carrier Telcel and should become the cheapest Nokia WP device to date.

The Lumia 505 specs are mostly unknown for now - all the carrier's Facebook account gave us was the 8 megapixel camera. We can also see that there's not going to be a flash of any kind alongside the camera.

However, the Windows key at the front features the old WP logo, so it's all but certain that the smartphone will be running some Windows Phone 7 version.

Now a closer look at its homescreen shows the support for resizable live tiles, so it's obvious that the smartphone will be running Windows Phone 7.8 out of the box.

There are also rumors of a 4" WVGA display, 800MHz CPU, 4GB of storage and 256MB of RAM, which make sense, but are yet to be confirmed. It would be a strange if Nokia invested too much effort in the design of a smartphone that is going to be exclusive to a Mexican carrier, so the Lumia 505 is most probably little more than a redesigned Lumia 510.

Guerrero Movil promised to reveal more information on the Nokia Lumia 505 in a week, so we won't have to wait long to find out.
